  • The lighting of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Beacons takes place on Monday 4th June 2012. It is one of the celebrations announced by Buckingham Palace on the extended Bank Holiday central weekend of 2nd - 5th June 2012.

Britain has a long history of beacon lighting spanning many hundreds of years. We have celebrated Royal Weddings, Jubilees and Coronations by lighting beacons on village greens, castle battlements, church towers, farms, beaches, front gardens and mountain tops! A beacon chain, once used as a tool for communication, has now become a symbol of unity across towns, borders, countries and continents and is often the central point of focus for any outdoor gathering or celebration.

On Monday 4th June 2012, over 4000 beacons will be lit - the length and breadth of the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, the Commonwealth and other countries around the world to mark this important historic moment in the Queen's Reign. The event will also try and achieve the title of the longest chain of beacons ever, to enter the Guinness Book of World Records.

Imperial London Hotels will be lighting our very own beacon as part of the event. This will take place in the courtyard of the Royal National Hotel, at approximately 10.26 pm on Monday 4th June!

Her Majesty the Queen will light the National Beacon in London at approximately 22:30 BST, and this will be the last beacon to be lit in the United Kingdom. Visit www.diamondjubileebeacons.co.uk more information and to view an interactive map of all locations in which Jubilee Beacons are being lit.
