A renovation to honour the past and embrace the future.
London, 4th June 2024 – Imperial London Hotels are pleased to announce a once-in-a-generation refurbishment of Imperial Hotel, overlooking Russell Square in the heart of Bloomsbury. Under going a comprehensive renovation, the Brutalist building will be transformed into a 4-star deluxe lifestyle hotel, serving as the flagship of the family-owned hospitality group when it reopens in 2026.

The landmark property, owned and operated by Imperial London Hotels, will offer guests a blend of retro-chic and modern sophistication. Featuring 357 stylish rooms and suites, adaptable public spaces and a stunning 10th floor panoramic rooftop bar and restaurant, with breathtaking views across London.

Neil Braude, Chief Operating Officer at Imperial London Hotels, stated, “We are delighted with the reopening plans for Imperial Hotel, a highly anticipated refurbishment for us. Our commitment to providing exceptional service and memorable experiences is stronger than ever. We look forward to sharing this new chapter with our guests, our team and the Bloomsbury community.”

Lead architects, Cube Design Ltd, and the interior designers, Trevillion Interiors Ltd and Keane Brands, have honoured the historic significance of the building whilst introducing modern facilities tailored to the needs of today’s travellers. Iconic architectural elements such as the bold Brutalist exterior and geometric window design have been carefully preserved, whilst the interiors will blend renowned 1960’s design features with a contemporary palette, completing the transformation.

Vascroft Contractors Ltd have been appointed as the main contractor, tasked with bringing this vision to life, ensuring the hotel once again becomes an iconic destination, true to its unique character and style, cherished by future generations. Throughout the design, demolition and main works, the project has been supported by Axiom Project Services Ltd as project and cost consultants.

Sustainability is a focus throughout the hotel renovation project. From the outset, Imperial London Hotels has made a commitment to minimising environmental impact by partnering with Clean Conscience™, a charity that ensured the surplus and redundant assets from the existing hotel were donated for reuse rather than disposal.
